چکیده

The problem of isometry-invariant representation and comparison of surfaces is of cardinal importance in pattern recognition applications dealing with deformable objects. Particularly, in threedimensional face recognition treating facial expressions as isometries of the facial surface allows to perform robust recognition insensitive to expressions. Isometry-invariant representation of surfaces can be constructed by isometrically embedding them into some convenient space, and carrying out the comparison in that space. Presented here is a discussion on isometric embedding into S, which appears to be superior over the previously used Euclidean space in sense of the representation accuracy.

Robust Expression-Invariant Face Recognition from Partially Missing Data

Recent studies on three-dimensional face recognition proposed to model facial expressions as isometries of the facial surface. Based on this model, expression-invariant signatures of the face were constructed by means of approximate isometric embedding into flat spaces. Here, we apply a new method for measuring isometry-invariant similarity between faces by embedding one facial surface into ano...

Expression-invariant three-dimensional face recognition

One of the hardest problems in face recognition is dealing with facial expressions. Finding an expression-invariant representation of the face could be a remedy for this problem. We suggest treating faces as deformable surfaces in the context of Riemannian geometry, and propose to approximate facial expressions as isometries of the facial surface. This way, we can define geometric invariants of...

Surfaces in S3 and H3 via Spinors

We generalize the spinorial characterization of isometric immersions of surfaces in R given by T. Friedrich to surfaces in S and H. The main argument is the interpretation of the energy-momentum tensor associated with a special spinor field as a second fundamental form. It turns out that such a characterization of isometric immersions in terms of a special section of the spinor bundle also hold...

Improving 3D Facial Action Unit Detection with Intrinsic Normalization

Data normalization techniques are commonly used to reduce intra-class variance while preserving inter-class differences that aid in classification and regression tasks. Such practices bring all data examples to similar scale and range, and help to decrease the dimensionality of categorization problems. In this paper we describe a novel use of a geometric framework to extend the concept of data ...

Spinorial characterizations of Surfaces into 3-dimensional homogeneous Manifolds

We give a spinorial characterization of isometrically immersed surfaces into 3-dimensional homogeneous manifolds with 4-dimensional isometry group in terms of the existence of a particular spinor, called generalized Killing spinor. This generalizes results by T. Friedrich [7] for R3 and B. Morel [16] for S3 and H3. The main argument is the interpretation of the energy-momentum tensor of a genra...
